This unit is switched to allow a step up of either 1 to 12 (21 dB gain) or 1 to 48 (34 dB gain).

These Altec TBB-103 TRANSFORMERS are by far the nicest set I have ever seen.  They are low level input transformers rated in the 1950's at 20-20,000 cps within 1db.  Each transformer is potted in a nest of high permeability cans within the case, providing 90 db of magnetic shielding.  These puppies are stone cold quiet!  The nest of cans consists of 3 mu-metal round cans nested within each other.  Each can is deep drawn and has a bottom lid with two holes (to route the lead wires).  Once assembled, the whole thing was wax filled.  There are two electrostatic shields which isolate the high impedance secondary windings from the primary windings.  The core is made of mu-metal (80 percent nickel.)  These transformers are a bit tricky to setup properly, and are not as easy to build up, as we are led to believe.  I spent a lot of time perfecting the installation of them to gain the best performance.  Lot's of builders can hook these up and have them sound ok.  Get it here to have them sound great.

This unit would be an especially awesome match for a either a very low output MC cartridge or a high output MC cartridge.  Please contact me with your cartridge information so I can make sure we have a proper match.

The high gain mode of these TBB-103 tranformers is 34 DB which will match Audio Note moving coil cartridges that have a 0.05 mV output.  Meanwhile, the AN-S8H, Audio Note transformer that was designed for that cartridge has 33 dB of gain.  If anything, this Altec TBB-103 should outperform the AN-S8H, at a much lower cost.

Both transformers work well and are electrically isolated from each other.  I have personally tested these for several hours on my home system.  They work flawlessly.  I guarantee this unit to not be DOA.

This unit includes a grounding post that can be used to connect your turntable ground and your preamplifier ground.  It also includes a ground "lift" switch.  In all modes, the transformer cases and faraday shield internal to the transformers are connected to the ground screw.  In the "ground" mode, the negative (-) leads of the phono connectors are connected to the chassis ground.  In the "lift" mode, only the transformers shields and cases are connected to the chassis ground.  In the "lift" mode, none of the conductors in the RCA jacks are connected to the case, ground, or shield and there is no electrical connection between channels.  This design allows you much flexibility to mitigate for ground loops regardless of the configuration of your other equipment.

I take pride in each and every set and provide customer support to make sure that they work well in your system.    www.bobsdevices.com contains information on how to best connect this unit to your system including information on grounding and a sketch showing a properly constructed interconnect cable.

You can purchase this one-of-a kind SUT for $1,995.00.  I do have one other pair of TBB-103s, but not nearly as nice as these.  Payment by paypal or credit card.
